SUMMARY:ISAO Annual Conference: Marriott on the Falls Niagara Falls\, Ontario\, Canada
DESCRIPTION:DRAFT CONFERENCE AGENDA…. HERE Check back! This is constantly being updated! (last update: 20 Jan) \nThe Education Committee is excited to announce the details for the ISAO’s 68th Annual Educational Conference and Tradeshow.   Next year’s event will be held at the Marriott on the Falls in Niagara Falls\, Ontario from February 22nd to 24th\, 2017.   \nThroughout the arboriculture industry\, arborists struggle to protect and care for trees in construction zones\, urban environments and other situations with influences beyond their control. The importance of including trees at the planning stage and the effectiveness of tree protection by-laws impacts the ability of arborists to maintain a healthy urban canopy.   In situations where the trees may not be the primary focus of the project\, preservation options may become limited and remedial actions are the only option. As these challenges face us\, there is potential to develop innovative tools to enhance and promote the care of trees for present and future generations.   With this Conference\, the ISA Ontario Education Committee aims to address the issues associated with trees in construction and environmental disruptions and to introduce innovative ideas and information. \n“Arboriculture:  In Theory & Practice”.  Save the Date! \nCONFERENCE HOTEL INFORMATION \nMarriott on the Falls 1-888-501-8916 6755 Fallsview Blvd. Niagara Falls\, ON L2G 3W7 \nBOOKING A HOTEL ROOM FOR THE CONFERENCE? We’ve negotiated a great deal\, but only for a limited time! Direct Booking Link HERE

Tree Academy Session: Working on Trees after Storms – Mark Chisholm\, Aspen Tree Expert Co.\, Inc./Team STIHL \nTechnical tree removal is one of the most difficult tasks we tackle. Combine that with what happens after a storm rolls through and it can spell disaster. This talk will look at how storms can create hazardous environments to work in and some of the ways to solve these risky situations. (Approved for ISA credits: 1.5 Certified Arborist\, 1.5 Utility Specialist\, 1.5 Municipal Specialist\, 1.5 BCMA- Practice\, 1.5 TW Climber Specialist\, 1.5 TW Aerial Lift Specialist\, 1.5 CTSP credits\, 1.5 CNLP credits) \nSession sponsored by \n\n\n1:40-2:40pm\n  \nA. This is a device that uses sound waves to create a visual 3D representation of what is going on inside of a tree\, without using any drilling methods or tools. \nJohn is one of the few American distributors of this instrument and he is well versed in its use and application. He will review the history\, development\, setup and operation of the equipment\, as well as the uses\, limitations\, and role of the device for arborists and tree risk assessors. DEC Session: A Silent Epidemic in Oak: The Northern Migration of Xylella Fastidiosia – Richard Buckley\, Rutgers University \nBacterial leaf scorch in amenity shade trees is a modern threat to the urban forest. Of all the many shade trees that are affected by this disease\, Oak stands alone as a primary host. Discovered in oak in the late 1980’s in the Washington DC area\, bacterial leaf scorch (AKA: Oak Leaf Scorch) has maintained a steady march northward through New Jersey and is now routinely diagnosed by diagnostic labs from Oaks throughout the Northeast Region. SUMMARY:Minnesota Shade Tree Short Course
DESCRIPTION:Minnesota Shade Tree Short Course \n53rd Annual Minnesota Shade Tree Short Course\nMarch 17-18\, 2015\nBethel University\, Arden Hills \nDiversity and Urban Forestry \nA lesson in smart economics always includes diversity; diversity in resources\, worker skills\, products\, vendors\, and clients. Lessons in diversity for managers of urban forests and trees have ranged from cruel and unforgiving to a breath of fresh air and hope! Our landscapes with multiple tree species and a mix of young and old trees will continue to thrive while those dominated by only a few favorite trees will soon be starting over. \nJob descriptions\, duties\, and required skills haven’t escaped the influence of diversity either. Successful arborists are not only skilled at pruning and removing trees\, they have become skilled at diagnosing problems in tree biomechanics and hazard tree identification\, and at promoting their services through social media. Municipal urban foresters have become stormwater managers\, adept at conducting tree inventories and assessing tree canopy cover\, and educators. \nUrban forests do not favor males to females\, youthfulness to maturity\, or one alma mater to the next. Look closely at this year’s program and how diversity is at every turn. Figure out how you can best use your time to redefine and diversify your professional skills\, cultivate new friendships\, and sustain old ones. And most of all\, welcome back. \nGary Johnson\nMinnesota Shade Tree Short Course\, chairperson
