New Tribe Onyx

I'm thinking im going to take the plunge and go with the new tribe onyx. I'd like some feed back though. Are the tool carriers functional or just a pain? Pics more than welcome. Wanna hear the good the bad. Thanx gents

I love mine. Never looked back. The only thing I would change is I would opt for rigging plates with larger holes for the leg straps.

I highly recommend the Onyx. It's a great saddle. Allow the leg pads to fall loose behind your knees, and take a little time to get things adjusted right. I had a problem with pinching at the groin, and Casey Jones at New Tribe suggested I needed a longer butt strap. He sent it to me and it solved the problem. They are great people to deal with.

I love my onyx for trimming but go to Buckingham empire with harness for removals. Onyx is pretty sweet, get a caritools for both sides and rock out. No complaints.

I am very happy with my Onyx saddle. Very comfy. Packs small for travel. I need to get some suspenders for it though as my noassatall has become worse in my old age....
Casey has designed some suspenders that I will be getting.

I think the Onyx is a good value. Lots of features for the price. Still getting used to mine and its my first saddle so I don't have much to add.

This is an old thread, but seems to be a suitable spot for my question.
With the Onyx, where are you securing your saw? The dog snap part of the leash, not the ring which would go on a caritool behind the hip-D.
And has anyone been able to flip the rigging plates around without having to cut or resew anything? It would be cool to flip em like the MB. Or will a rope snap fit in it as-is? Would like to utilize th plates as lower-Ds. But I enjoy a rope snap on my flip-line.

If your Onyx is old enough then you might have the old rigging plates with a slot instead of the usual larger hole. We have since gone with the Rock Exotica plates which do have a fourth hole large enough to use as lower dees. We position them on the current Onyx in a forward position. If you are unable to back them out to upgrade them I would be happy to do it. If you were able to send it to me then it would be a quick turn around as it would not take long to do.

I haven’t actually even ordered one yet. So i’d Say it’s the newer version ;) haha.
But this morning I ordered one for my boss. I am gonna take a close look at his when it arrives and from there consider getting one for myself. Just curious about the Lower-D possibility.
So do you think backing out the straps to flip the plates around is a simple task, no cutting or re-sewing?

Order the MB!

I attach my saw lanyard via a locking d biner to the very short 1" nylon webbing loop below everything on the right hip. I attach the top handle via a non-locking ergonomic quickdraw biner to my right gear loop, but am looking for a better spot prior to getting a shembiner.
