Add quick buckle to TM Essential

ATH

Been here much more than a while
Location
Findlay, Ohio
Training a new employee...picked up a Tree Motion Essential for $300 at the tree care conference/tradeshow (new, but not the new model - Essential X... vendor cleaning out inventory of old model so sold it cheap).

Anyhow, the adjustable waste belt is a little obnoxious to get the saddle on and off. Not a deal breaker at $300, but not ideal either.

Anyhow, has anyone upgraded by adding a quick release? I'd probably use a Cobra as they use on the other TM's but open to suggestions.

My thought would be have the fixed end of a quick release on a bite of webbing that has both ends feeding back through the current adjuster. Then sew those ends together so it cannot come out. Would also need to cut the stitching making a loop at the end, but that does not concern me...it's just to keep the webbing from coming out of the adjuster and could easily be redone.

Thoughts?

What I meant is, does an alteration void the cert of the entire saddle?
Which, in turn, could cause a liability issue?

I like the CMC on my MB OG. Easy to use "buckle" and adjuster. Adjustment always stays put till I want to adjust it intentionally.

Honestly do what everyone did with the original treemotion light, shove a xsre biner where the webbing goes into the “buckle” easy on and off adjustment just pull the xsre to loosen

I actually prefer that type than the high up model (older style) cobra buckles. The cobra lock up so tight it takes tools to adjust the webbing slack for adjustments. My waist size is pretty stable but winter layers became a problem.

I’ve advised a few women who went with the sliding buckle as shown, they had issues as it didn’t open up enough to get the harness comfortably over their hips.

Can be a grass is greener issue too

I'm not picturing how this works. Didn't find anything in a search....

In that red look in my pic above?

Oh for sure...I hated the adjustment on my TM (circa 2016ish). Would have to pry the webbing out with a screwdriver.

It's manageable. I just know it's nice to step in and buckle. And if we can do that for $30 its money well spent. I don't think its as big of a deal for the leg loops.

I once added a bridge to my son's saddle by using so called certified parts in the form of petzl openable rings. Only liability then is that you've altered configuration, but maybe that's as much of a legal sin as using non-cert parts. ? Jimmying a latch or buckle may set you up too.

Put a xsre under that bight and then you can grab the xsre to tighten and loosen the “buckle” significantly easier, still won’t open up like a cobra buckle but it’s the next best thing
This works, plus you can clip your knee ascender to that XSRE as well, or route it through the XSRE on the way to clipping into the hip D if you need more length.

Just about the biggest reason I use my Monkeybeaver 2 over my TreeMotion Essential most of the time is that it is easier to get on and off thanks to it's buckles. Those straps are the ONE thing I kind of hate about the TM, even with mini biners to make it easier to do... I'm thinking about buying the Pro X just because of the dang straps, since it uses buckles instead.

But as pointed out, some pros and cons to each method... I just know it drives me nuts.

i thought you bought a lift, is the harness meant as a wall-piece? ;)

My bucket truck reaches what I need to do like... twice a month, meanwhile I have like 20 SRT devices :p Partly because I'm a gear hoarder, but mostly because I'm usually in tall trees away from roads.... just need to buy the CMC 72HD+ Arbor Pro.... that would reach.... 15% of the trees I do.... more equipment doesn't count as hoarding, does it? ;)

Not if it has a purpose. And said purpose doesn’t need to be defined.
